Leo Burnett (October 21, 1891 - June 7, 1971) was an advertising executive and the founder of the Leo Burnett Company, Inc., also known as Leo Burnett Worldwide. He was responsible for creating some of advertising's most well-known characters and campaigns of the 20th century including Tony the Tiger, Charlie the Tuna, the Marlboro Man, the Maytag Repairman, United's "Fly the Friendly Skies," Allstate's "Good Hands," and for garnering relationships with multinational clients such as McDonald's, Hallmark and Coca-Cola. In 1999, Burnett was named by Time Magazine as one of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century.

He is widely considered one of the most influential men in the history of advertising.

His company, Leo Burnett Worldwide, has 96 offices worldwide and boasts more than 10,000 employees. It is the 4th largest ad agency in the world. The headquarters in Chicago is the 2nd largest ad agency office in the world.

Leo Burnett's lineage is only known back through Duplain, Michigan in the late 1800's (Nobel Israel Burnett), and New York in the early 1800's (George M Burnett).
